Assam-Mizoram Border Tensions: Sushmita Dev to visit CM Sonowal in Guwahati

Silchar: Amid the growing tensions in the border region of Assam and Mizoram, All India Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev is likely to visit Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and will raise the matter with him on Monday.

Earlier this morning, Sushmita took to Twitter saying, “There is serious trouble brewing at the Assam- Mizoram border overland & border dispute. Houses have been burnt and people injured on both sides. It has impacted the peace of Cachar & Karimganj district inside Assam. Wake up @CMOfficeAssam @sarbanandsonwal.”

Meanwhile, Assam Excise, Forests and Environment and Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidiya today along with Cachar DC, SP & senior district administration officials visited the Lailapur area situated along the Assam-Mizoram border where several houses of the people of Assam were burnt down last night in Mizo aggression that fueled in interstate border tensions.

The Minister took stock of the situation and has ordered a high-level inquiry into this untoward incident.

He also held multiple rounds of talks with the locals to have an extensive overview of the situation and has directed the Cachar police & district administration to resolve the issue at the earliest.

On behalf of the government of Assam, the Minister also assured of full support and cooperation to the people of Lailapur.
